A decade ago, I was all in on this idea of positive thinking. I recorded myself repeating affirmations like, “Money is easy to make,” and “I am rich and abundant.” I’d play those recordings in my car and scream along with them, trying to ingrain the words into my subconscious.
And you know what happened? Nothing. Absolutely nothing.
It wasn’t that I wasn’t trying hard enough or that the affirmations were “wrong.” The problem was deeper—it was the resistance in my unconscious mind that I wasn’t even aware of.
Here’s what I’ve realized: the Law of Attraction isn’t broken, and it doesn’t just “work” in some areas of your life but not others. The real issue is that most people don’t understand how they think. If you’re not seeing the changes you want, it’s not because you’re incapable or unlucky. It’s because there’s resistance beneath the surface holding you back.
The Two States of Being
Let’s start with a simple but powerful idea: you are always in one of two states of being. You’re either in a powerful state or a primal state.
Powerful states feel good—joy, peace, curiosity, excitement, or calm. These are the emotions that energize you and make life feel expansive.
Primal states, on the other hand, don’t feel so great. Think boredom, anger, anxiety, overwhelm, or jealousy. These are the emotions that keep you stuck in frustration and fear.
Here’s the thing: you can’t be in both states at the same time. You’re always in one or the other.
What determines which state you’re in? It’s not your circumstances. It’s the thoughts you have about your circumstances. The meaning you assign to what’s happening around you is what creates your emotional state.
For example, if something isn’t going your way, the primal reaction might be frustration or anger. But if you pause and look at the same situation through curiosity or compassion, you shift into a powerful state.
How Resistance Shows Up
Resistance is sneaky. It doesn’t announce itself. Instead, it shows up in how you react to the parts of your life that don’t feel good.
Let’s say your relationship isn’t where you want it to be. Maybe you get triggered during an argument, and it pulls you into a primal state. That reaction isn’t random—it’s rooted in subconscious beliefs like, “I’m not lovable,” or “They never listen to me.”
Or maybe you’re dealing with financial stress. Pay attention to your thoughts when you look at your bank account or think about money:
- “I don’t have enough.”
- “I’ll never get ahead.”
These thoughts aren’t facts—they’re beliefs. And those beliefs are shaping your reality.
Here’s the tricky part: when you’re stuck in resistance, it’s easy to believe your current reality is just how things are. But the truth is, your beliefs are creating that reality. When you shift your beliefs, everything else follows.
A Lesson from Copernicus
Let me tell you a quick story. Back in 1543, scientists believed that the Earth was the center of the solar system. All their calculations were based on this assumption, but the math just didn’t add up.
Then along came Copernicus, who said, “Hey, maybe the sun is at the center instead.” And when they recalculated everything with this new perspective, the math made perfect sense.
Why does this matter? Because many of us are operating with “bad math” in our lives. We’ve been taught that success comes from hustle, luck, or being born into the right circumstances.
But here’s the good math:
Desire + Non-Resistance = Desired Result
It’s not about how hard you work or how perfect your strategy is. It’s about identifying and removing the resistance that’s keeping you from your goals.
Sculpting Your Masterpiece
Think of your life like a block of clay. Inside that block is a masterpiece waiting to emerge. But instead of adding more clay to try and create something new, the real work is in removing what doesn’t belong.
Resistance is the excess clay. It’s the unnecessary thoughts, fears, and limiting beliefs that are covering up your potential. When you clear that resistance, what’s left is the masterpiece that’s been there all along.
How to Let Go of Resistance
Let’s get practical. How do you actually identify and release resistance?
- Pay Attention to Primal States: Anytime you feel triggered or negative, stop and ask yourself, “What’s the thought behind this feeling?”
- Identify the Belief: Dig deeper. What belief is driving that thought? For example, if you’re worried about money, the belief might be, “I’m not capable of creating wealth.”
- Challenge the Belief: Ask yourself, “Is this really true?” Often, these beliefs were formed in childhood and don’t reflect who you are today.
Your work isn’t to figure out every step of how to achieve your goals. Your work is to identify the resistance and let it go.
You’ve Already Placed Your Order
Here’s something most people don’t realize: you’ve already done the hard part.
Every time you’ve wished for a better life—whether it’s more money, better health, or fulfilling relationships—you’ve placed your order with the universe. The system has already received your request.
Now, your job is to stop asking and start trusting. Obsessive asking often comes from resistance. It’s like placing the same order over and over at a restaurant because you’re not sure the waiter heard you. Trust that the system is working, and focus on removing the resistance between you and your desired outcome.
Why Non-Resistance Is the Key
If you’re wondering why this matters, let me put it this way: resistance is the only thing standing between you and the life you want.
Think about it—if you had zero resistance, you’d already have what you’re asking for. You’d be confident, clear, and taking inspired action without fear or doubt.
The formula is simple:
Desire + Non-Resistance = Desired Result
And here’s the best part: you already know how to desire. You’ve been asking for more money, better relationships, or improved health for years. Now, it’s time to focus on the second part of the equation—letting go of resistance.
Moving Forward
The journey isn’t about fixing yourself or adding more strategies to your plate. It’s about peeling back the layers of resistance and stepping into the powerful, creative version of yourself that’s already there.
Start small. Notice the moments when you feel frustrated or stuck, and use those as opportunities to uncover the beliefs holding you back. With practice, you’ll begin to see shifts—not just in how you feel, but in the results you create.
Your masterpiece is already within you. It’s time to reveal it. Take this as your permission slip to trust the process. The life you want is closer than you think, and it starts with removing what no longer serves you. Let’s do this together.
