Every single day, you’re creating your reality. Whether you realize it or not, your thoughts, beliefs, words, and feelings are shaping the world around you. The question is, are you creating what you truly want—or are you accidentally creating the very things you don’t want?

This idea, as profound as it may sound, isn’t new. It’s grounded in the teachings of Neville Goddard, a philosopher and spiritual teacher who believed that our imagination is the ultimate tool for shaping our lives. Neville called this the law of assumption, which is the practice of imagining that your desires are already fulfilled.

Today, I want to explore what this means for you and how you can begin using these principles to take control of your life, no matter where you’re starting from.

Thoughts Become Things: The Foundation of Creation

Let’s start with something fundamental: your thoughts create your reality. This isn’t just a nice idea; it’s how the human operating system works.

Think about it: if you believe the world is unsafe, you’re going to have thoughts of fear and distrust. Those thoughts will trigger emotions like anxiety or anger, and those emotions will guide your actions. Maybe you avoid new opportunities because you don’t trust people, or maybe you push people away. Over time, these actions create results that reinforce your original belief.

Now flip the script. Imagine believing that life is full of opportunity. Suddenly, your thoughts are hopeful and optimistic. You feel excited, motivated, and open. You take actions that align with this belief, like pursuing new goals or meeting new people. Those actions lead to results that confirm your belief in abundance.

Here’s the thing: it’s a cycle. What you believe influences how you think. How you think determines how you feel. How you feel drives your actions. And your actions create your results.

For example, if you’re thinking, “There’s never enough time,” that thought will trigger feelings of stress and overwhelm. Those feelings might cause you to procrastinate or freeze, and as a result, you don’t get everything done. The outcome reinforces your belief that there’s never enough time.

This is how most of us operate—on autopilot, stuck in cycles we don’t even realize we’re creating. But here’s the good news: you can break the cycle.

The Power of Your Imagination

Let’s get into one of Neville’s most powerful teachings: you’re always imagining something.

Most people think imagination is just about daydreaming, but the truth is, you’re using your imagination all the time. When you’re replaying an argument in your head, imagining the worst-case scenario, or worrying about how you’re going to pay the bills, you’re using your imagination.

The problem is, most of us are using it to focus on things we don’t want. Neville taught that what you imagine consistently is what you create. If you’re imagining being broke, feeling stressed, or failing at something, you’re activating those outcomes in your reality.

Let me give you an example. Say you’re worried about losing your job. You spend your days imagining what it would feel like to be unemployed. You think about the stress, the financial insecurity, and the uncertainty. Then, one day, your boss calls you into a meeting and tells you there’s been a round of layoffs—and you’re on the list.

Was it just bad luck? Or did your constant focus on that outcome play a role? Neville would say it’s the latter. Your imagination is always working, whether you’re aware of it or not.

The Fourth Dimension: The Space Where Anything Is Possible

Neville spoke about something called the fourth dimension, which he described as a creative, energetic field where all possibilities already exist.

Think of it like this: in the fourth dimension, everything you could ever want—whether it’s financial abundance, a thriving relationship, or perfect health—already exists in energetic form. When you focus your imagination on a specific outcome, you’re “stamping” that desire into this field. Over time, it begins to materialize in your physical reality.

For example, let’s say you’re imagining a job that’s more fulfilling and pays better. As you hold that vision, you might start noticing opportunities. Maybe a recruiter reaches out, or you see a job listing that catches your eye. Or maybe a friend mentions an opening at their company.

This isn’t magic—it’s how the process works. By focusing your thoughts and emotions on what you want, you activate the creative forces that bring it into being.

Problems Are Here to Guide You

Let’s talk about problems. Most people think of problems as obstacles, but they’re actually clues.

When you experience something you don’t want—like financial insecurity, health challenges, or relationship struggles—it’s meant to show you what you do want. For example:

  • Financial struggles inspire a desire for abundance.
  • Health challenges spark a longing for vitality and strength.
  • Toxic relationships push you to seek deeper, more meaningful connections.

The issue is, most of us get stuck focusing on the problem instead of the solution. We keep thinking about what’s wrong, which only creates more of it. But when you shift your focus to what you desire, everything starts to change.

Weeding the Garden of Your Mind

Imagine your mind as a garden. Over the years, it’s been filled with all kinds of seeds—some good, some bad. Those bad seeds? They’re limiting beliefs, fears, and old traumas that keep you stuck.

To create the life you want, you need to pull those weeds. That means healing old wounds, challenging beliefs that no longer serve you, and calming your nervous system so you’re not constantly operating in fight-or-flight mode.

This process, often called personal growth, is how you clear space for new, empowering beliefs. When you do this, you free yourself to focus on the possibilities ahead instead of the pain of the past.

Developing a Daily Practice

One of the most powerful things you can do is create a daily practice of intentional imagination.

Neville suggested doing this right before bed, when your subconscious is most open. Personally, I like to do it in the morning when my mind is still in a relaxed state.

Here’s my process: every morning, I sit down and write a love letter to my higher power. I thank God for everything I have in my life—my family, my health, my business. Then, I write about the things I’m calling in as if they’re already here.

For example, I might write, “I’m so grateful for the $100 million company we’ve built,” or, “Thank you for the incredible opportunities that keep showing up.” Writing it down helps me feel like it’s already done, and that feeling is what makes the practice so powerful.

Trust the Process

Here’s something I’ve learned: the things you imagine may not show up exactly how you expect them to. Sometimes, life gives you pieces of what you want mixed with things you don’t.

Maybe you land a new job, but it’s not the perfect fit. Or you meet someone who seems great, but the relationship doesn’t work out. This doesn’t mean the process isn’t working—it just means you’re being guided toward something better.

The key is to stay the course. Don’t lose faith, and don’t fall back into old patterns of imagining what you don’t want. This is a practice, and like any skill, it gets easier with time.

You Are the Creator of Your Life

At the end of the day, you are the creator of your reality. By understanding the rules of the game—your beliefs, thoughts, and imagination—you can take control of your life and shape it in ways you never thought possible.

Start small. Begin imagining the future you want, not the one you fear. Act as if it’s already done. And trust that the universe—or whatever higher power you believe in—is working behind the scenes to bring it to life.

You’ve got this.
